M1-5 Lounge and Music Venue
Cathy Scheele
During the night, Tribeca is viewed as a quiet, mysterious, and romantic area of the city. Hidden in this neighborhood are many unknown destinations that are full of activity. They are diamonds in the rough. M1-5 is to become one of these hidden destinations. The exterior hints at the action occurring below, while the interior is defined by the flow and rhythm created by the music and structural columns. The key areas of action are meant to be discovered. It is a space of unexpected surprises.
Currently, M1-5 Bar, located at 54 Walker Street, is a large open space. The entry way is closed off so pedestrians are not drawn in from the street. Upon entering the space, there is one large round bar in the middle of the room and booth seating along the walls. I wanted to redo this bar to draw people inside, to take advantage of the large space, unused basement, and high ceilings.
